Harilaos Ginis

Harilaos Ginis is an optical scientist and entrepreneur specializing in the translation of advanced vision science into clinical and industrial applications. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Crete and has over two decades of experience in ophthalmic optics, visual psychophysics, and medical device development.

He is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Diestia Systems, a company focused on novel eye diagnostics and customized optical designs for intraocular and contact lenses. His work bridges academic research and practical innovation, from developing adaptive optics instruments for studying visual performance to designing diffractive and freeform optical elements for clinical use. Dr. Ginis has coordinated and contributed to several international R&D projects under the EU Horizon and Eurostars programs, including initiatives on adaptive optics, tear-film imaging, and virtual simulation of optical corrections. His current interests include emerging technologies that redefine precision in eye care—ranging from AI-based diagnostics and teleoptometry tools to next-generation implantable and wearable optics.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, holds multiple patents in optical design and vision simulation, and frequently collaborates with clinicians and industry partners across Europe. Through his research and lectures, he promotes a closer dialogue between optical science and clinical practice, aiming to bring personalized, data-driven vision care from the laboratory to the consulting room.
