Ahalya Subramanian

Dr Ahalya Subramanian is an Associate Professor of Optometry and Vision Science at City St George’s, University of London, and a registered optometrist with an international reputation in vision impairment research and education. Her work bridges academic excellence and real-world impact—leading global collaborations and mentoring the next generation of optometrists and academics.

Ahalya has published extensively, secured funding from leading organisations, and was awarded the prestigious Neil Charman Medal for her research into virtual eye care during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and serves on advisory panels such as the General Optical Council, as well as on charitable boards including the International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation and Vision Action.
