Ophthalmic Surgeon Dimitra M. Portaliou graduated in 2004 from the Medical School of the University of Crete. She completed her residency in Ophthalmology in 2015 at the Ophthalmology Department of Red Cross Hospital in Athens. She subsequently moved to the United States, where she worked for one year as a Research Fellow, supported by a scholarship from the Vardinogiannis Foundation, in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the eyelids and orbit at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida. She later served as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London and, from 2019, held a permanent position as Consultant in Oculoplastics at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. At the end of 2021, she returned to Greece and has since been working at Metropolitan Hospital as Coordinating Director of the 2nd Ophthalmology Department.
